FEATS
The Festival of European Anglophone Theatrical Societies (“FEATS” to its friends) is an annual competition between English-speaking amateur theatrical groups based in mainland Europe to see who can put on the best production. That is the description in a nut-shell. But FEATS is also a chance to see four evenings of first-class entertainment consisting of three one-act performances per evening.
To find out more about FEATS, check out their website here.
When the curtain goes up, the actors perform either published plays or original scripts, with a time-limit of minimum 20 minutes, maximum 55 minutes. Beyond this, there are strict rules on striking and setting, and rehearsal times. The performances take place under the critical eye of an invited adjudicator. He or she must be a member of the Guild of Drama Adjudicators or an equivalent body. The adjudicator’s duty is to award points for each performance and make constructive criticism afterwards.
The performing groups are awarded prizes in 8 categories – First, Second, Third Place for Best Production, Best Stage Presentation, Best Original Script, Best Actor, Best Actress and Stage Management. On top the adjudicator can award a Discretionary Award, for anything he/she feels exceptionally noteworthy.
FEATS started in 1976 as a friendly sparring match between a few groups in the Benelux countries, and has since grown to a four-day festival of international renown. The winner of the FEATS First Place is eligible to participate in the National Drama Festivals Association (NDFA) British All Winners Drama Festival, an annual event showcasing top amateur theatre groups from across the UK and beyond that have won local/regional festivals. It’s a prestigious event featuring the “cream of British amateur theatre”.
Entity first participated in FEATS 2003 and has been a regular contestant ever since, in total 11 times to date. In 2019, Entity hosted FEATS in Munich for the first time.
We have received a number of nominations and awards in every category (except Discretionary Award).
