A Suicide Reply Playreading

Our Playreading Workshop for A Suicide Reply at MUCCA Büchersaloon on October 12, 2025 was a full house — and a full success! Together with the author Michael Godwin Hilton, we read and explored the original script and engaged in a lively and inspiring discussion. Afterwards, we enjoyed warm conversations accompanied by drinks, snacks, and delicious cake.

Thank you to everyone who participated, shared thoughts and asked questions. And a special thank you to Barrett Jones and Michael Godwin Hilton for organising and staging this incredible event.

A Suicide Reply is an original script and was written by Michael Hilton, a friend of Entity. The play circles around Nell Persons (a poet loosely based on Anne Sexton). She is dependent on her daughter, Katie, after attempting to take her own life. Can Katie break free to fulfil her own potential despite her mother’s neediness and instability? Centering on the intricate relationships among a playful and poignant quartet, the play explores the perils of overdependence, the limits of helping others, and the creative impulse – above all – to understand why we create and how we discover joy in living. The play has four characters, 3 women aged late 20’s, mid 30’s, early 70’s, 1 male aged late 50’s/ early 60’s.

About Michael: Michael Goodwin Hilton is a published American playwright, poet and fiction writer. He studied playwriting at Fordham University and obtained an M.A. in American Studies from the University of Tübingen. He teaches English and playwriting at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and lives with his family in Bavaria. Among other honours, he is a two-time recipient of the Governor’s Award for Best Play in the State of New Jersey, The Spotlight Award from True Acting Institute.

Michael’s original script, which hasn’t been performed on stage yet, is part of the play development process leading up to a full-fledged stage production. Michael and the Board were extremely happy for the avid discussion that took place after the reading which inspired further edits and amendments to the story.

Depending on the resonance from its members, Entity plans to put on A Suicide Reply in 2026 or 2027.
